About us

I’m Sonali Kapoor, the creative heart behind It Starts at Home. Raised in the bustling streets of Gurgaon, India, I’ve woven a colorful life across four countries—India, Indonesia, Singapore, and now the USA, where I live with my husband and our brilliant son, Vivaan. My world is fueled by art and the magic of discovery; I find brainteasers in the swirl of a painting, patterns in rustling leaves, or even the crisscross of a waffle. These sparks of inspiration drive me to craft activities that ignite curiosity and joy in kids.

When Vivaan was just 1.5, I began our home learning adventure, pouring my love for creative teaching into activities that made his eyes light up. What started as a mom’s mission to nurture his potential grew into a passion for designing fun, engaging worksheets and games for kids aged 2–14. From math and brainteasers to preschool play, my creations—shared on my YouTube channel, It Starts at Home, and at bysonali.com—aim to nurture young minds and make learning a delightful journey. Join me in sparking your child’s love for discovery!

Meet Vivaan, My Inspiration

My son, Vivaan, is the unstoppable force behind It Starts at Home. At just 2, he was devouring books, his tiny fingers tracing words with a hunger for knowledge that left me in awe. He had read 1000 books before kindergarten. By 9, he earned a spot in Mensa, and today, as a member of the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth, he’s soaring to new heights with an IQ over 140. Vivaan’s curiosity is a wildfire—unquenchable and electric. He’s conquered math and science competitions across the globe, stacking up gold, silver, and bronze medals like a young Olympian. From dominating the American Math Olympiad and SASMO to clinching a Gold and 5th Rank at the Singapore Vanda Science Competition 2025, plus shining in Noetic and SMGF, his medal shelf tells a story of grit and genius. Whether he’s unraveling a brainteaser or celebrating a win with arcade rewards from a Singapore Math contest, Vivaan’s journey fuels every worksheet and game I create. His spark proves that with the right activities—ones that challenge, delight, and inspire—every child can chase their dreams and soar to extraordinary heights.
